Spam Info
Here are the list of spam measures implemented by hotkey for all incoming emails. Incoming emails are the ones  coming into Hotkey mail system from outside Hotkey's network.

Black List And Whitelist

These external blacklist proved to have the lowest false positives, quite aggressive, and short de-listing period. We also use our inhouse blacklist system.

How do I report SPAM?

You can report SPAM via an automated system we have implemented. The system will examine the SPAM message and remember it as SPAM for any future incoming e-mails. To use this service, simply forward (As attachments) any SPAM messages you receive to:

Outlook Express 4, 5 and 6

You must use the Forward-as-attachment option when forwarding e-mail. You can forward multiple spam at once by creating a new message to your email submission address. Then, drag each individual spam into the body of the new message.

Microsoft Outlook

You need to create a new message, then select attachment->Item and select the SPAM message from your item list. You can also forward multiple messages at once as attachments by selecting multiple messages then selecting forward.

Netscape, Mozilla and Thunderbird

Create a new message, then drag each spam to the attachments window at the top of the message window.

Rate Limit

  • We allow a sender to connect to one of our mail server 30 times within 20 minutes.
  • We allow a sender to send an email to 100 recipients within 20 minutes.

Recipient Check 

We will reject emails directed to a non existing user. The error code will be 550, and the bounce message will have something like :

< This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it >: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in relay recipient table (in reply to RCPT TO command) 

 

File Attachment Policy

Hotkey block all attachment with following criteria :

  • All attachments that end with following extension : exe, pif, scr, vbs, com, cmd
  • Filename longer than 150 character
  • Files that contain Virus

Virus Checking Policy

 Hotkey use Clam AV to check for virus and phising emails.

  • Files larger than 3MB will not be scanned
  • Password protected Archives will not be scanned.
  • Encrypted attachments will not be scanned
  • Archive with more than 1000 files will be blocked. This limit is set to prevent DoS attacks.
  • Archives with more than 5 recursions will be blocked. Archive recursion is an archive that contains another archive(s). This limit is set to prevent DoS attacks.
  • When server is overloaded, it will automatically bypass spam and virus checks.
